L'iceberg de Keixeta à Eperra ikastola
June 02, 2023
Intense hear, storms, floods, drought: the pupils of Eperra Ikastola, in Chéraute (Soule) addressed the climate crisis head on with the aid of Keixeta's painting "Izotz Mendia" ("Iceberg").
Jean-Claude Aguerre explains how he drew on the painting as both an instrument for learning the skills of watercolour painting and as a subject of discussion in the classroom.
First, the students experimented with watercolours, learning how to make the colours brighter or paler depending on how much water they used. Then they tackled the reality of global warming to make their own works. Finally, they addressed the subject on large sheets of paper, depicting themes like drought, floods and forest fires.
Txiki Agirre "Keixeta" lives in Zumaia, Gipuzkoa. One of his major concerns is the danger that global warming represents for our planet.
His painting, which is part of a series on this theme, was loaned by the Itzal aktiboa association as part of its "A painting in the classroom" project.
