Lanzarote vs. Lanzarote
December 21, 2014
WORKS ON PAPER BY VERÀÆ'âNICA DOMINGO ALONSO AND JOSETTE DACOSTA
Inauguration Saturday 27 December 5.00 â'â¬'â 7.00 p.m.
Two generations, two artists, two women: one island, Lanzarote, a volcanic island rich in colour and wild landscapes which is one of the Canary Islands. Both artists spent time in Lanzarote as artists in residence at Bungalows Nautilus in 2014. This exhibition shows the fruits of their time there in an enriching dialogue between two complementary approaches.
Verónica Domingo Alonso lives and works in Bilbao and in Madrid. In 2013, she was awarded the Itzal aktiboa prize for a promising young contemporary artist. Her work in black ink on white paper addresses the aesthetics of landscape drawing on the traditions of Chinese art and calligraphy.
Josette Dacosta paints with pigments on a range of paper supports, combining colour and texture to transmit her impressions and memories of landscapes in a visual crescendo of explosive energy. She has her studio in Saint Jean Pied de Port
