ARTEA NOKA, ARTEA HIKA - L'ART AU FéMININ XII

January 31, 2018

For the twelfth edition of our annual exhibition organized to mark International Women's Day, Marythé Avella will exhibit her paintings in the Town Hall of Saint Jean Pied de Port from Tuesday March 6 to Thursday March 29 2018.

The paintings of Marythé Avella combine traditional culture and Pop Art in a visual symphony composed of the motifs and symbols found on Basque tombstones and the lintels of Basque houses. Working in her studio in an old farmhouse on a hillside above Uhart Mixe, she investigates this language and analyzes its messages... Drawing on her imagination she gives new life to these symbols, transcribing her interpretation in terms accessible to a contemporary audience.

OPENING HOURS

In the Town Hall: Monday to Friday, 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon and 2.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
