Two artists are exhibiting their work in the Prison des Évêques in Saint Jean Pied de Port until May 29. One, Christian Saint Marc, lives and works in Aïcirits, near Saint Palais. The other, Iker Valle, lives in San Sebastian and has his workshop in Hernani.
The exhibition fills the upper floor of this historic building with vivid and colorful paintings. In addition to paintings, Iker Valle is also showing some bronze sculptures reminiscent of the foam of the waves and part of his series Writing of the sea.
Christian Saint Marc, born in 1963 in Langon, Gironde, grew up surrounded by the pots of paint and brushes of his father, a painter. Trips to Africa and then to Greece awakened his vocation as an artist.
After passing through the various movements of modern art, he ended up with his own style which he describes as abstract impressionism. Working with natural pigments, acrylic paints and oils, he builds backgrounds through color collisions. His goal: to create turmoil emerging from chaos in what seems to him to be a good reflection of present times.
Iker Valle (Andoain, Gipuzkoa, 1976), on the other hand, develops his creative process in series, exploring and experimenting with different techniques and materials, both in painting and in sculpture. Each series is the result of plastic, aesthetic and emotional investigation. Once a series is completed, he moves on to something else.
In this exhibition, alongside his sculptures, he presents paintings from hisVibrations and Polychromy of silence series. Among his latest works, sketches on paper in black ink recall the beech trees of the forest of Iraty.
