In this exhibition, Asier Gogortza highlights the changes taking place in the rural part of the Basque Country with, in particular, a series of photographs showing the dilapidation of traditional stone farm buildings such as sheep byres.
At a time when old ways of life are changing and risk disappearing forever, the exhibition stresses the urgency of documenting and preserving the memory of this traditional rural world.
We are already behindhand in attempting to save anything from this world. The best we can do, in the photographer's opinion, is to record the remnants and ruins of a declining rural landscape. In other words, we can only aspire to carry out what amounts to an autopsy of this landscape.
