Lorentxa Beyrie

Lorentxa Beyrie (Cambo, 1975) studied ethnology and anthropology at the University of Bordeaux. In prison since 2001 as a Basque militant convicted for collaboration with the military arm of ETA, she discovered painting as a means of self-expression and of maintaining her freedom of thought. Self-taught, she uses charcoal and pastels to produce lively and colourful works that communicate her moments of hope, happiness and melancholy.
